TKR’s New Leaf

Published on July 10th, 2006

leaf The birth of The Kever Report came after I created a video blog called My Army Times which I used to post news stories I produced at work. After seeing the site, an internet news cast out of New York contacted me and I agreed to work with them, providing stories and correspondence, free of charge.

After a whole lot of work convincing my chain of command to let me participate in uniform, I was incorrectly introduced in the newscast as being from Fort Campbell Florida. A simple, yet terrible error in fact. I asked the producer to correct the mistake, which he did in the comments but I didn’t think it was enough of a correction. Many people don’t read comments… how could I be sure my command would? So I got upset and sent a scathing letter to the producer.

The next day I was fired publically during their newcast. The error in fact wasn’t important enough to correct on the air, but the fact that I was no longer working with this newscast was. I still get ticked when I think about it.

So I decided to create my own newscast, producing the first episode of The Kever Report shortly there after.

But I basically did the same thing this two bit newscast does but with a different opinion presented in an equally offensive fashion.

That was over seven months ago, and I haven’t had the time to produce much else since.

Recently I began graduate school with the University of Maryland, in a dual masters program working towards Public Relations Management and Business Administration. I’ve since been studying organization management and theory and it’s time to start applying what I’ve learned

I’ve given a lot of though to what I want The Kever Report to be. The Kever Report (TKR) started out as a knee jerk reaction to what I perceived as irresponsible propagandistic journalism. Now it’s time to switch gears.

I’ve come up with a mission statement, a living breathing document that will focus the direction of TKR.

TKR is a purpose for me, an outlet to cover stories I would not otherwise have an opportunity to cover. TKR is unique in that it is not financially responsible to anyone. There are no advertisers to deal with, no boss directing in the back ground, no realistic expectation of turning a profit… nothing but sincere journalism free from commercial influence.

The first episode of TKR was a learning experience for me. It is not what I expect to deliver on a regular basis. So please bear with me as The Kever Report is a work in progress.

Finally, I’ve decided to remove everything I’ve posted to date, saving the first episode of TKR. My goal in this is to turn over a new leaf and restore some credibility to what I’m trying to do.
